The Himalayan Wolf is a species of the gray wolf found primarily in the high-altitude regions of the Indian subcontinent, including the Himalayan mountains of India, Nepal, and Bhutan. It is also present in parts of Tibet and some areas of Pakistan. The species primarily inhabits alpine meadows, grasslands, and barren rocky slopes at altitudes between 2,500 and 5,000 meters.
The Himalayan Wolf is medium-sized, with a robust, muscular body and a thick, dense coat that is typically pale gray, with a yellowish or brownish tint. Its fur provides insulation against the cold, harsh mountain environment. The species has a bushy tail, large paws that help it traverse snowy terrain, and sharp, powerful jaws. Himalayan Wolves are carnivorous and primarily hunt wild ungulates and marmots. They are also opportunistic scavengers, often feeding on carrion. These wolves tend to hunt in small packs, although solitary individuals are not uncommon. They are well-adapted to the high-altitude, harsh conditions of the region, capable of covering large distances in search of food.
