The Red Fox is a highly adaptable and widespread species of fox found throughout the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas, including parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. It inhabits the alpine and subalpine zones, typically at elevations ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 meters above sea level, in rocky, scrubby, and open landscapes, often near forests or grasslands.
The Red Fox has a striking appearance, with a reddish-orange coat, a white underbelly, and a bushy tail tipped with white. Its legs, face, and ears are typically darker, and it has a narrow, pointed snout. It is a medium-sized canid, with a body length of about 45–90 cm, a tail length of 30–50 cm, and a weight range of 3–6 kg. The Red Fox is an omnivorous and opportunistic feeder. It can also scavenge in human-dominated environments, such as urban and agricultural areas. It is also a highly territorial animal, using scent markings to define its range.
