The Central Kashmir Vole, also known as Kashmir Mountain Vole is a small rodent species native to the high-altitude regions of the Kashmir Valley, including parts of northern India and Pakistan. It is typically found in alpine meadows and grassy slopes at elevations ranging from 2,000 to 4,500 meters in the mountains of the western Himalayas.
This vole is characterized by its dense, soft fur, which is usually a grayish-brown color, providing camouflage in its rocky, herbaceous habitat. It has a short tail and relatively small ears, typical of vole species. The Kashmir Mountain Vole is a herbivorous feeder. It is known for its burrowing behavior, creating complex tunnel systems to hide from predators and maintain a stable microhabitat during harsh winters.
