The Small Indian Mongoose is a small, carnivorous mammal native to the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and parts of the Middle East. The species thrives in a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and agricultural fields, often in proximity to human settlements.
The Small Indian Mongoose has a slender body with short legs, a long tail, and a pointed snout. Its fur is typically grayish-brown or light brown, with a lighter underside. The Small Indian Mongoose grows to around 40–50 cm in length, including its tail, and typically weighs between 0.5 to 1 kg. It is an omnivorous and opportunistic feeder, particularly known for its predatory skills, hunting rodents, reptiles, and amphibians. Though not as well-known for killing snakes as the Indian Gray Mongoose, it is still capable of tackling smaller snakes.
