The Greater False Vampire (Bat) is a large insectivorous bat found in South and Southeast Asia, including parts of India. Despite its name, it does not feed on blood. Instead, it preys on insects, small vertebrates, and occasionally other bats.
It has a distinctive appearance, with large ears joined at the base, a prominent nose-leaf, and long, broad wings. Its fur is typically brown or grayish, and it has a wingspan of around 50 cm. Roosting during the day in caves, ruins, or hollow trees, it becomes active at dusk.
This species is solitary or roosts in small groups and uses echolocation to locate prey.
