The Common House Rat, also known as the Black Rat or Roof Rat, is a widely distributed rodent species belonging to the Muridae family. Native to the Indian subcontinent, it has spread globally, thriving in a variety of habitats, including urban, suburban, and rural areas. It is commonly associated with human settlements.
This rat is medium-sized, with a slender body covered in black or dark brown fur, a pointed snout, and large ears. It has a long, thin tail, often longer than its body, which helps it balance while climbing.
