The Yellow-throated Marten is a medium-sized carnivorous mammal found across the mountainous regions of South and Southeast Asia, including India, Nepal, Bhutan, China, and parts of Southeast Asia. It inhabits temperate and subtropical forests, often at elevations ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 meters, and is typically found in areas with dense vegetation and cover.
The Yellow-throated Marten has a slender, elongated body, with a distinctive yellow or golden patch on its throat, which gives the species its name. Its fur is generally dark brown or black, with a lighter underside and yellowish markings around the chest and throat area. It has a bushy tail and a pointed face, with sharp, carnivorous teeth. The species typically grows to 50–70 cm in body length, with a tail length of 25–30 cm, and weighs between 1.5–2.5 kg. This marten is an omnivorous and solitary predator.
