Leschenault's Rousette, also known as the Indian Rousette or Fulvous Fruit Bat, is a medium-sized fruit bat. It is widely distributed across South and Southeast Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and parts of Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. This species inhabits a variety of habitats, such as forests, caves, old buildings, and urban areas.
Leschenault's Rousette has a wingspan of approximately 45–60 cm and a body length of 10–15 cm. Its fur is soft and ranges from grayish-brown to reddish-brown, with lighter underparts. The bat has large, dark eyes and a fox-like face, and unlike most bats, it uses a form of basic echolocation, producing audible tongue-clicking sounds to navigate in complete darkness. This species is frugivorous and is primarily nocturnal, roosting during the day in caves, tree hollows, or buildings, often in large colonies.
