The Five-Striped Palm Squirrel, also known as Northern Palm Squirrel is a small, diurnal rodent native to the Indian subcontinent, including India, Pakistan, Nepal, and parts of Afghanistan. It is commonly found in a variety of habitats, such as forests, farmlands, urban areas, and gardens, making it highly adaptable to human-dominated landscapes. This squirrel is easily recognized by its grayish-brown fur adorned with five distinct white or yellowish stripes running along its back, from head to tail. It has a bushy tail and sharp claws, which make it an agile climber.
Northern Palm Squirrels are omnivorous, feeding on fruits, seeds, nuts, flowers, insects, and even small birds' eggs. Known for their vocal and alert behavior, they emit sharp, chattering calls, particularly when alarmed.
